Bill Ramos, Founder Bill Ramos' first fuel deliveries were to Seabees, Marine and Navy pilots in the South Pacific. Serving aboard a tankership during World War II, Bill Ramos supplied diesel and aviation fuels to newly conquered islands.

Since just one in five tankers survived the war, Ramos developed a keen interest in making the delivery and the attention to prompt, dependable service that has become the hallmark of Ramos Oil Company.

Ramos Oil was founded in 1951 with the acquisition of a small Shell Oil distributorship in West Sacramento. The company began as a one-man operation with Bill Ramos making fuel deliveries himself. Ramos established a reputation for reliable service and garnered a number of substantial contracts, including the provision of fuel for the construction of the Sacramento Deep Water Channel.

Shell Oil Sign Circa 1951

The year 1971 initiated an era of expansion. The acquisition of bulk fuel plants in Courtland, Dixon, Rio Vista, Yuba City, Fairfield, Isleton, Marysville, Clarksburg, Stockton, Lincoln and Woodland enabled the company to better serve its agricultural customer base. In the 80's the company entered joint ventures with Carson Valley Oil in Carson City, Nevada and Ramos/Strong, Inc. of Mojave, CA in Southern California.

Along with these acquisitions came the right to distribute virtually every major brand available in California -- Shell, Chevron, Unocal, ARCO, Texaco, Mobil, Tosco, and B.P. Few jobbers offer such a wide range of fuel, lubricants and other products.

During the 1980's the company established cardlock fueling sites to participate as a founding member of the Commercial Fueling Network (CFN). The network enables 24-hour fueling in over 30 states with centralized, detailed billing for truckers and other fleet operators.

Ramos has responded to the public's heightened awareness over environmental concerns. Ramos Environmental Services, created in 1979, provides removal of used oil and other hazardous wastes, contaminated soil, ground water removal and 24-hour emergency response services. Construction, remediation and environmental consultation services are also available.

Today, Ramos delivers bulk and pre-packaged petroleum products to farms, construction sites, mines, governmental entities and other businesses as well as private individuals. Ramos Oil rates as one of the largest Shell jobbers in the nation and is among the largest Hispanic and family owned and managed business. Bill Ramos, as Chairman, can be found in his office each morning and is involved in the overall management. Sons Kent and Kyle preside over oil jobber and environmental businesses, respectively.

Ramos Oil Company owes its success to its commitment to excellent customer service. There is no better testimonial to this fact than the number of present customers that have been with the company since 1951. It is this standard to which the Ramos Companies are committed to remain true.

... Excellent customer service drives our business!
